Wanderlust: Berlin (Gartnerei & Olympischer Platz)

My sisters, brother-in-law, nephew and I went on a trip to Europe this past summer, which was an incredible experience. I started my documentation of our trip once we got to Germany. We went to Berlin, specifically the area near the Olympic stadium where they had the 1936 Olympics.

We went on what would have been a beautiful day if it wasn’t 106ºF. We. Were. Sweating. Germany doesn’t expect heat like this wave that hit us and they traditionally don’t have air conditioning, or put ice in drinks so we were limited in the ways we could cool down. With a heat-ridden and fussy 18-month-old we stripped him down as much as possible and tried to keep giving him as cool water as we could while we all melted in the summer sun.

But in the end the photos didn’t suffer at all. We walked through the large Gartnerei where one of my beloved relatives is buried. We went to visit his grave and walked through the lovely massive garden and woods that surround the area.

Overall this part of our trip was quite an adventure.
