Better than a Moleskin?!
I had to keep a journal while I was in Berlin and so I went to B&N looking for a Moleskin and I found an Ecosystem instead. It felt and looked similar to a moleskin, but even better the back had a slot for storing things, the pages and structure were very similar to the moleskins with one exception. It is made of completely recycled material.
the ecosystem life
An ecosystem notebook has a unique past, present and future: The book’s past is the various parts made of 100% post-consumer recycled paper, its present is your thoughts and ideas recorded on the pages, and the future is your next step: save the book, or recycle it.
I can’t tell you how comfortable, lightweight, and easy to carry around it was. It didn’t leave my side through all of Berlin.
Below are some views from my Berlin: Sticks + Stones Ecosystem Journal:
Behold: The Ecosystem Journal
I had to keep a journal while I was in Berlin and so I went to B&N looking for a Moleskin and I found an Ecosystem instead. It felt and looked similar to a moleskin, but even better the back…
It helped me plan the exhibit and keep snapshots of our time there.
One side is a study in German and the other my sketch study of a German. 😛
It acted as my documentation for the exhibit. We were required to answer certain questions in our journal.
I kept every ticket and label I could. 🙂 If I didn’t have tape or my glue stick on me I stored it in the back pocket. Speaking of:
It was extremely helpful. Sidebar: you see that leaf in the bottom corner? The code in there allows me to go to the ecosystem website and find where the recycled materials came from to make up my specific ecosystem journal.
You can sketch, write, draw, paint, and collage all over these journals. It withstood a LOT of wear and tear!
To all you moleskin lovers: Don’t get me wrong! I love a good moleskin and I think in the end they both deliver what you want in the product. But what else are you buying? On some books to purchase when you get a moleskin this warning comes up:
California Residents – Proposition 65
WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
So while they both serve the same purpose and I think are the best in the field I have to say it really comes down to: do you <3 your Moleskin? Or do you <3 your Ecosystem?
I <3 my Ecosystem.
